TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 23 Florida State used five double-figure scorers to pull away for a 94-42 win over the Mercer women's basketball team on Wednesday evening at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Junior Kendra Grant led Mercer (6-4) with 15 points while classmate Sharnea Boykin dished out eight assists, the fourth time she has tallied seven assists or more in her last five games.

After Mercer scored the first two points of the game on a pair of free throws by Grant, Florida State ripped off an 11-0 run to counter. A fast break lay-in by senior Leonor Rodriguez ended the scoring streak and made the score 11-2 Seminoles with 15:21 to go in the first half.

A baseline jumper by Grant kept Mercer within striking distance, trimming Florida State's lead down to nine, at 19-10, with 11:47 to go in the first half.

Every time the Bears seemed like they were closing the gap, the home team responded. After Grant's bucket, the Seminoles came right back with a 23-11 run. A lay-up by senior Chelsea Davis put Florida State comfortably ahead 42-21 going into halftime.

Mercer tried to cut back into the lead with back-to-back baskets by Grant and senior Sharmesia Smith making the score 46-25 Florida State with 18:15 remaining in the second half.

The home team made sure that no such comeback attempt was in the cards, using a 16-2 run to effectively put the game out of reach. Four-straight points by senior Chasity Clayton made the score 62-27 Seminoles with 13:28 left in regulation.

Junior Natasha Howard paced Florida State (9-1) with a double-double consisting of 17 points and 12 rebounds.

The Bears return to the floor once more before the holidays, welcoming High Point to Macon on December 21. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hawkins Arena.
