Macon anti-violence activists plan a candlelight vigil next week to protest crime in the community.
The vigil is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29 at Coleman Hill overlooking downtown Macon.
Organizer Clarence Thomas said the vigil is inspired by recent crime in the community, not by the Newtown, Conn. shootings.
They include the Dec. 4 shooting at a Murphy's Express gas station in east Macon, when a 73-year-old man allegedly killed a 65-year-old woman.
Another organizer is Frank Dixon -- whose father, Frank Reeves, is charged with murder in the Murphy's case. Dixon is a longtime anti-violence activist in Macon.
Groups sponsoring the vigil include Dixon's Macon One, Hoodfessional Incorporated and FEEline Inc.
