Police: No Warrant on Macon Man Shot by Officer | News
Macon police confirm that a man killed in an officer-involved shooting last Friday had no outstanding warrants.
Sammie Davis, Jr., 49, died after being shot at the Kroger on Pio Nono Avenue.
Investigators initially told 13WMAZ that Officer Clayton Sutton was attempting to serve a warrant on Davis when the shooting happened.
Sutton remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
According to the news release, the department's Criminal Investigation Division and the Internal Affairs Unit are reviewing the case.
The statement from Macon police Deputy Chief Henderson Carswell says they're still investigating the shooting and will turn their file over to the district attorney when it's completed.
Sutton is a defendant in a lawsuit stemming from an incident in 2010. Jimmy Brewster claims that Sutton threatened to shoot him and hit him on the head several times with a flashlight. Brewster says he was treated for a head injury.
Clayton Sutton has on the force for more than six years.
