GBI Reviewing Kroger Shooting Case File
News

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says its investigation into the Macon supermarket shooting is proceeding according to agency guidelines.

According to GBI Special Agent-in-Charge Rodney Wall, investigators are reviewing the file on the shooting submitted to them by the Macon Police Department.

Wall said the GBI has not interviewed witnesses or Macon police.

Wall says that the GBI will use certain criteria to determine if further investigation is needed -- such as interviewing witnesses themselves. He did not identify those criteria.

Police fatally shot 49-year-old Sammie Davis, Jr. outside the Kroger store on Pio Nono Avenue on Dec. 21. The police department says they were at the scene responding to a call for service but have not explained further.

Wall would not say how long the GBI investigation might take.

Officer Clayton Sutton remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  This is routine when an officer is involved in a shooting.
