The movie's buzz is already good.
On the sports blog, Beyond the Box Score, Blake Murphy writes that the film "...has the potential to be an incredible and powerful film, and could go a long way to educating a whole new generation of fans..."
At FilmSchoolRejects.com, Nathan Adams says the "42 Trailer Hits Oscar Bait Trifecta," emphasizing the story's historical elements, the mediation on race relations and its inspirational nature.
ScreenRant.com writer Daniel Johnson says, "The film's promise is further bolstered by its cast," and includes Christopher Meloni, Lucas Black, Alan Tudyk, John C. McGinley, Jon Bernthal and Toby Huss in addition to Ford and Boseman.
Adam Chitwood at Collider.com seems intrigued by the movie itself, but points out that the "...longer trailer does a nice job of selling the film as more thrilling and exciting than your typical cradle-to-grave biopic..."
Production spokesman Ernie Malik told 13WMAZ in June 2012 Robinson's widow owns the rights to her late husband's story, and that many producers have tried over the years to get her to consent to making a movie.
She finally agreed in 2010 to the "42" script. Malik said a movie was almost made in the 1970's with Sidney Portier portraying Robinson.
"When each of these actors stepped-up and said, 'I'm playing Ralph, or I'm playing Spider,' she said, 'Oh yeah,' Malik said, "You could see the sparkle in her eye of the memories that brought back."
The filming captivated Central Georgia's attention for almost two weeks last summer and physically transformed parts of downtown Macon, which were made into stand-ins for Brooklyn, Daytona Beach and Pensacola.
