Vandy Head Football Coach Speaks to Central High | News
The Central Chargers had a special guest Monday night at their Fall Sports Banquet: Vanderbilt head football coach James Franklin.
Addressing the football, softball, cheerleading and cross-country teams, Franklin spoke about the importance of education and how he got the Commodore football program on the right track.
"People ask, well, what's the secret," said Franklin. "How were you able to come in there and turn that thing around so quickly and do the things you're doing. There is no secret. It's about hard work."
But comments he made, presumably in jest, have started drawing national attention.
"There's this guy at Alabama--I think his name is 'Nicky Satan'--you guys have probably heard of him before. I'm going to out work him," Franklin told the crowd. "That's kind of our plan every single day."
Central's Nigel Bowden is committed to play linebacker for the Dores this fall.
"This man right here [Franklin] has so much passion in what he does," explained Bowden. "I believe this is a man I can look up to for four years. I'm telling you man. I'm going to have the best life up there. He is what he says he is. He walks the walk and talks the talk. I've never met anybody with so much passion and energy in what they do."
Vanderbilt finished with a record of 9-4 after defeating NC State in the Music City Bowl.
