Arson Suspected in Macon Church Fire
News

Investigators believe arson is to blame for the Monday morning fire that caused major damage to a south Macon church.

Glenn Allen, spokesman for the state insurance commissioner's office, says accelerant-sniffing dogs on Monday found signs that the fire was set.

He would not release any further information, including where the fire was set.

Sgt. Ben Gleaton with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department said that arson is suspected and their investigation continues.

Gleaton said a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons respsonsible for the fire.

"Up to $10,000 has been offered," Gleaton told 13WMAZ as he posted reward posters at the scene Tuesday morning.

The Reaching Souls Cathedral, located at Rocky Creek Road and Bethesda Avenue was heavily damaged by the fire.

Chief Marvin Riggins is expected to discuss the findings of their investigation Wednesday morning at a news conference.

Anyone with information on the case can call the Georgia Arson Control at 800-282-5804.
