U.S. Rep. Austin Scott Visits Howard FBLA | News
U.S. Rep. Austin Scott of Georgia's 8th District visited members of Howard High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) on Wednesday, January 30. Rep. Scott spoke to the students about his experiences as a small businessman and member of Congress.
“To me I’ve lived the American dream," he said. "As a member of Congress I think our job is not to guarantee that everybody lives that same dream but guarantee that everybody has the opportunity. Some of us will succeed and some will fail but the key is when you do fail you get up and try again.”
Howard's FBLA chapter is the largest in Georgia FBLA’s Region 5, which includes 15 Middle Georgia counties. Every year they earn points as they compete for Chapter of the Year. As part of that competition they are required to have a member of the House or Senate come and speak with them.
Howard was named a Top 20 (Gold) chapter in 2011-2012 and hopes to repeat that success this year. Their lead adviser is Natasha Eppinger.
