GaDOE Honors Title I Parent Trainer | News
Title 1 Parent Trainer Dawn Scott is being honored by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) for her work at Jones Elementary School. The GaDOE is spotlighting some of the innovative ways Mrs. Scott is reaching families.
Realizing that all parents cannot attend meetings Mrs. Scott created a YouTube channel that helps parents stay informed and gives them ideas for hands-on activities to boost student achievement that they can replicate at home.
Mrs. Scott said this has proved an invaluable resource.
“I love that my position affords me the opportunity to work in the field of education, while engaging our families in fun learning activities and utilizing my educational background in media and technology," Mrs. Scott said. "Working together with the students, parents, and staff here at Walter P. Jones is a joy!”
Mrs. Scott said it helps that her principal, Dr. Keela Malone, is an exceptional leader.
“She makes the message clear that parental involvement is of the utmost importance when ensuring the academic achievement of our students," Mrs. Scott said. "It’s our goal to increase active participation and build capacity to involve our parents in an effective partnership with the school.”
Parents have responded to the activities with rave reviews and noteworthy evaluations.
