Mercer Men Go for 20th Win

MACON, Ga. (School Release)- The Mercer men's basketball team goes for its 20th win of the season on Saturday as Northern Kentucky comes to Macon for a 4:30 p.m. start.  Saturday's game also marks the annual Senior Day game, which will see four members of the basketball program honored before tipoff.

Northern Kentucky comes to Macon sporting 9-14 (7-8 A-Sun) record after topping Kennesaw State 64-54 on Thursday night.  The win over Kennesaw State snapped a three-game losing streak that was preceded by a four-game winning streak.

Thursday's matchup features the league's two best defenses, as the Bears and Norse rank first and second, respectively, in points per game allowed.  Northern Kentucky is allowing just 61.0 points per game, but rank last among A-Sun teams in scoring offense (57.8 ppg).

Senior Eshaunte Jones ranks seventh among A-Sun players in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per outing.  He's flanked at the guard position by junior Chad Jackson, who averages 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Six of Northern Kentucky's nine wins have come on the road, including conference wins at North Florida, East Tennessee State, USC Upstate and Kennesaw State.  The team averages 59.5 points per game on the road in comparison to 55.9 points per game at home.

The Mercer men's and women's basketball teams are on a combined winning streak of 19 games, the second longest such streak in the nation.  The only school with a longer unbeaten streak is Texas Southern (21 games).  Entering Saturday, the Mercer women have won 12-straight, while the Mercer men have won seven-straight.

Mercer's seven-game winning streak is tied with High Point for the 13th-longest unbeaten stretch in the nation.

The Mercer men's basketball program has never had back-to-back 20-win seasons.  The team won 27 games last year, and currently has 19 wins with three games to play in the regular season.  Those 46 wins are the most over a two-year span in program history.

Mercer's win over Lipscomb on Thursday was the team's sixth victory by 20 or more points this year.  In the last two years, Mercer is 10-2 in games decided by 20 points.  In Bob Hoffman's five years at Mercer, his teams are 18-11 in games decided by 20 or more.
