Three Children Killed in Macon House Fire

A house fire in Macon killed three children Sunday morning and left a fourth in critical condition.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says two girls, 7-year-old Daija Williams and 10-year-old Nykhi Williams, and a boy, 9-year-old Jamarion Williams, died in the fire.

Jones says 3-year-old Jaylon Williams is in critical condition. He was transported to Augusta Burn Center.

Macon police said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Bibb County Fire Chief Marvin Riggins says fire crews were called around 1:35 a.m. to 1131 James Street, off Log Cabin Drive.

Riggins says crews found the four children inside a burning house. He said crews were able to resuscitate one of them.

Riggins says the children's mother was not in the house when the first firefighter crew arrived. Police say she has been interviewed by investigators.

Firefighters only evacuated the four children.

13WMAZ's Judy Le reports that a witness heard the mother tell police she went to the store "for two minutes, three minutes."

But once the children were brought out, Riggins says the mother "arrived fairly quickly." He says he is unsure of her whereabouts.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to a police news release.
