NAACP Hosts Saturday Forum on Macon Police
News

Macon's NAACP and the U.S. Department of Justice want to hear what people think about the Macon police department.

They've scheduled a community forum to talk about it. It's happening Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Unionville Missionary Baptist Church.

That's at 3837 Houston Ave. in south Macon. In a news release, the local chapter's president, Gwenette Westbrooks says they hear regular complaints about racial profiling, police conduct and discipline.

On Wednesday, discussing the shooting of Sammie Davis Junior by a Macon police officer, Macon Mayor Robert Reichert says he wants to fix the department's public-image problems.

He also plans a forum on police-community relations, tentatively scheduled for March 28.
