Dallemand Kicks Off Summer Reading Program
News

Some Bibb students may spend more hours flipping through pages this summer.

About 3,000 students and some parents turned out for Bibb schools summer reading program kick-off. They held the "Get Jazzed About Reading" event at the Macon Centreplex Saturday.

The kids enjoyed skits, guest speakers and browsed through books.  The kick-off celebrates the Reading Readiness program implemented by Bibb Superintendent Dr. Romain Dallemand.

Parent Tracy Taylor says she's pumped about the program and looks forward to helping her child stay focused on reading.
She says she hopes other parents will do the same.

"Bibb County can only be as good as the parents and teachers working together and we need to support what the teachers are doing in the classroom and implement it at home," said Taylor of Macon.

"They (the students) need to read in order to become leaders and our parents, they are role models for our students, so they need to read and model for our students what reading should be like," said Dallemand.

All parents at the event also received a free book.
