O.L. Bill Clements

Macon- O.L. (Bill) Clements, 87, passed away Thursday March 22, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at Ingleside Baptist Church on Saturday March 24, 2012 at 2pm. Dr. Mark Hudgins will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Mr. Clements, son of the late O.L. Clements, Sr. and Margaret Birch Clements, was preceded in death by his daughter Dr. Fabian Clements Worsham. He is survived by his wife Virginia (Ginger) Briley Clements, daughter Gina Lyday (Lee), and grandson Dr. Austen Worsham of Houston, TX. He is also survived by a brother Tommy Clements of Wareham, MA, brother-in-law Joe Briley of Gray, GA, sister-in-law Nettie Briley Jones (Ray) of Tuscaloosa, AL and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Clements was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher, member of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class and a member of the Inglelights. He was a member of the Kiwanis Golden “K” Club where he was active in community service. He delivered meals on wheels for over 10 years. He is a past president of the Aerospace Toastmasters Club and a member of NARFE Chapter 2142. He retired from Robin AFB after 45 years of service. Upon graduating from Lanier High School Class of 1943 he entered the US Army. He was assigned to the Ninth Infantry Division, 2nd Battalion landing at Utah Beach on “D-Day” + 4 serving through the Normandy Campaign. He received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat in France. He was a member of the Middle GA Art Association and enjoyed woodcarving and wood burning. Mr. Clements was founder of the “Poets Corner” located in the Discovery House at the Museum of Arts & Sciences. In lieu of flowers friends may donate to their favorite charity.
