Jerry D. Clark


Lizella-Jerry D. Clark, 76, died Monday, January 9, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Reverend Rob Farr officiating. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Church, 621 Foster Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.

Mr. Clark served in the United States Navy and was on the USS Wright toward the end of the Korean conflict. He retired after 55 years as a Master Interior Carpenter in Indiana. After retirement, Jerry and Anna moved to Lizella, Georgia. He was a member of Emmanuel Church and volunteered in the kitchen during fellowship dinner events. His hobbies included wood carving and gardening.

Rev. Percy M. Newton


Rev. Percy M. Newton, Sr., Preacher Newton as he was fondly called, passed away on Friday January 6, 2010.

Rev. Newton, was born in Dothan, Alabama on August 14, 1913 lived all but nine years of his life in Macon, Georgia. A Southern Baptist Minister for 51 years, he served numerous churches in the Middle Georgia area, including Glenwood Hills Baptist Church in Macon.

He also retired from Joseph N. Neel Co. after 17 years. Rev. Newton was a member of and past president of the Exchange Club of Bibb County, Wolihin Lodge # 390, Knights Templar, Al Sihah Shrine Temple, and Vineville Baptist Church.

William L. Maddox


Macon-William L. “W.L.” Maddox, 92, died on Thursday, January 5, 2012. Family will greet friends between 2-3:30PM on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201.

Mr. Maddox was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II in the European theatre. He retired from Southern Bell.

Mr. Maddox is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy S. Maddox of Macon; son, Bill Maddox (Charlotte) of Mexico Beach, Florida; daughter, Cathy Mullins (John) of Atlanta; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Robert Gordon Hollister, Sr.


Macon- Robert Gordon Hollister, Sr., 73, died Thursday, January 5, 2012. A Celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 11:00AM in the Grace Sunday School Class Room at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with Pastor Teresa Edwards officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.

Mr. Hollister was born on March 15, 1938 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Jacksonville Beach, Florida where he graduated from high school and went on to attend Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. His first job after college was in Atlanta, Georgia where he participated in a sales training course with Atlanta Stove Works, Inc. and from there, enjoyed a career in sales.

Marjorie Watson Hickson


Marjorie Watson Hickson, 88, of Macon, Georgia died January 4, 2012 at Morningside Assisted Living, her home for the last four years. A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 7, 2012 in the chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, with the Reverend John Haney officiating. Private burial will be in Macon Memorial Park. A visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.

Marjorie was born in Grovania, Georgia and graduated from Perry High School. She continued her education at Georgia Business School and worked in Human Resources for Cochran Field during her mid to late 20s. She was also co-owner with her husband for 30 years at Hickson’s Drug Store on Napier Avenue.

Gladys Sanders Cannon


Macon- Gladys Sanders Cannon, who celebrated her 100th birthday on January 1, 2012, passed away on January 3, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Greenwood Baptist Church, 3400 Gray Highway, with the Reverends Sam Scarborough and Joe Ferguson officiating. The family will greet friends at 1:00PM before the service at the church. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Cannon, the widow of Hoyt Esten Cannon, was born near Danville, Georgia and had lived in Macon since the 1920’s. She was the daughter of the late Reuben G. and Ida Phillips Sanders. Mrs. Cannon was a homemaker and a longtime member of Cross Keys Baptist Church and was presently a member of Greenwood Baptist Church.

James Edwin Goodwin


James Edwin Goodwin: 83, of Forsyth, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hart’s Mortuary, Cherry Street. Burial will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Chip Grantham will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Born in Millen, Georgia, he was the son of the late William K. Goodwin and Mary Beatrice Womack Goodwin. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Ann Sexton Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army, Fourth Infantry Division.
