Mark A. Smith passed away on June 21st, 2012 in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida at the age of 53. A native of Macon, Mr. Smith grew up in Houston County and graduated from The Westfield School. For many years Mr. Smith was the owner of Northside Mazda-Volvo in Macon. He was well known locally for his “bulldog tuff truck” advertising program. Under his helm, Northside Mazda consistently ranked NO. 1 in Mazda truck sales in North America. After selling his auto dealership, Mr. Smith was engaged in real estate development and advertising projects.

Bonnie R. Gardiner 1950-2012

 Macon-Bonnie R. Gardiner passed away June 20, 2012 at Pine Pointe Hospice. She was born in Macon on March 27, 1950 to John and Martha Richardson of Macon.

She attended A.L. Miller High School and graduated from Peach County High School. She had a degree in medical technology and attended Fort Valley State College where she studied in the veterinary assisting program. She worked with her husband at Greenwood Farm Veterinary Clinic for many years. She was a member of Martha Bowman Methodist Church.

Alesia Faye (Lisa) Hall


Memorial services for Alesia Faye (Lisa) Hall, 50, of Macon who died Tuesday,

June 5, 2012 will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday night in the Chapel of Fisher Funeral Home with Rev. Chad Zueck officiating.

 Lisa was born in Pulaski County and had lived in Macon since 2004 moving from Dublin. She was a 1979 graduate of Bleckley County High School and attended the Heart of Georgia Technical College in Dublin. She was an employee of Lowe’s in Macon and a member of Cochran First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents, James and Mary Hall of Dublin; sisters, Sharon Warren of Dublin and Robin (Clay) Pfannkuche of Warner Robins; brother, Jim Hall of Dublin; close family friend, Kim Itson of Macon; several nieces and nephews.

Karl W. Guthrie


Macon- Karl W. Guthrie, 81, of Macon, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. The family will greet friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to National Brittany Spaniel Rescue and Adoption Network, P. O. LaVerne Laney


Mrs. LaVerne Laney, 82, of Greensboro, NC, formerly of Macon, departed this life Wednesday, April 25, 2012, very quietly in the Palliative Care Unit of Moses Cone Hospital. God chose this date to reunite her in heaven with her husband, John, on his birthday.

LaVerne was born January 4th, 1930, in Macon, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, John F. Laney, mother and father, Rufus and Rosa Lee Hardy and brother Rufus(Mose)Hardy, Jr. LaVerne was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church for many years and was a member of Forest Hill Methodist Church for the past several years.

Macon-Bill Drew Brown died Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Memorial services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Anthony Road with Brother Earl Land officiating. Family may be reached at 2715 Bob-O-Link Drive.

Mr. Brown was born in Farmington, Georgia to the late James Howard Brown and the late Lily Patricia Smith. Mr. Brown owned Brown and Dismuke Printing and enjoyed being a school bus driver for the Bibb and Baldwin school systems. He was a member of the University Park congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

John W. Epps


John W. Epps, Jr. 62, of 2108 Graham Road, Macon, Ga. passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Dry Branch. Visitation will be held Monday, April 23, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Born in Macon, he was the son of the late John Winfred Epps Sr. and Mary Del Scott Epps. He was retired from Epps Brothers Construction and Houston Paving Company.

He is survived by his wife, LaDonna Haddock Epps of Macon, Ga. Children, John Benjamin Epps and Mary Elizabeth Epps; Sisters, Patsy Spence of Jones County, and Roslyn Jones of Dry Branch.
