About a month ago, one of Macon's many Good Samaritans found a dog behind a Kroger grocery store. The dog had on an orange collar that was still attached to his black leash. The collar had no rabies tags or other identification.

The kind stranger took the dog home, but the dogs already living there refused to accept this lost and confused dog into their pack, so off he went, into boarding at Northside-Wesleyan Animal Hospital in Macon. And there he remains today.

Unfortunately, the dog can't stay in boarding forever. His owner is apparently not looking for him, and so far, no one has seen fit to give this dog a home or offer to foster him until a home can be found.

His time is up on Friday, Dec. 7. If the dog can't be placed by then, he will be taken to animal control, where his chances of survival are slim.

Staff at the hospital have been footing the bill for the dog all this time. Animal lovers have stepped in to volunteer to pay for the dog to be neutered, and have offered to donate large bags of dog food to the rescue, foster or adopter who agrees to take the dog by Friday.

If you are interested in taking this dog home, you should go to the animal hospital and meet him to be sure you're a match for one another. Then let the staff know you want to adopt him. He will be neutered on Friday instead of going to the pound, and it won't cost you a penny. Plus, when you pick him up on Friday, you will also get the dog food. Others have volunteered to provide at least two more large bags of dog food when needed.

He already has his shots and he is heartworm negative. Staff member Tiffany has pledged to provide six months' worth of Trifexis - a flea/tick, heartworm and worm preventive -- to the lucky person who takes this loving dog.

The dog is not aggressive, shows a loving, friendly spirit and will undoubtedly make a wonderful companion. Call Northside- Wesleyan Animal Hospital at 478-477-6828 to make arrangements to meet the dog. If you would prefer to foster for an area rescue, get in touch with the group of your choice or contact Tiffany at the animal hospital so she can let area rescue groups know. All of the local rescues are full to bursting right now, so without a confirmed foster home, it's unlikely any of them can rescue this dog.

Time is short. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please call today to get the process moving.

Northside-Wesleyan Animal Hospital is at 335 Charter Blvd., just off Vineville Avenue in Macon. The hospital is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
