Concerned Citizens to Meet About Macon Animal Control Position

Concerned Citizens to Meet About Macon Animal Control Position

I had the honor of meeting AC Pup and his dad Van at the 7th Annual Rescue Day sponsored by Tractor Supply.  After receiving the wettest kiss ever, I was able to express my admiration at the work he has done to turn Macon Animal Control around.  Much to my suprise, the County Commission has decided to bring in and interim director to replace him.  Confused?  I am!

A group of concerned citizens who are unhappy with the County Commission decision to bring in the Interim Director for Macon Animal Control and replace Van VandeWalker, will meet at 6pm Wednesday June 13 at 6pm at 535 Ivy Brook Way, Macon for an organizational meeting.

The meeting will be held in the Clubhouse at The Highlands on North Mumford Rd. (park in the pools parking lot).

For directions, message the Keep Van Facebook page.

Special Adoption Hours Saturday at Macon Animal Control

Special Adoption Hours Saturday at Macon Animal Control

For only the second time in recent memory, Macon Animal Control will be open -- albeit briefly -- on Saturday, June 2. Many area residents interested in adopting a dog from the facility cannot get there during the shelter's normal weekday-only operating hours due to work or school. The special adoption event, planned for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.,  provides an opportunity for more adopters to visit the shelter, where time is rapidly running out for the animals.

The cats and kittens have all left the building. More than 40 dogs have left, too, headed for new lives with new families, or bound for rescue and a foster home while they keep looking for a family to adopt them.

Macon Animal Control shelter is shutting down June 6 for 3 to 5 days, and all of the remaining dogs at the shelter must be out by then or be killed.
