Daryl Morton and Wanda West defeated their opponents in their races for Bibb County Board of Education.
West, the incumbent, soundly beat Darren Latch, 10,266 to 7,260.
Morton defeated James Bumpus 11,068 to 6,142.
The totals included 40 of 40 Bibb County precincts, but did not include absentee ballots.
13WMAZ caught up with Morton at the Cox Capitol Theater.
"When you've had a period of crisis like we've had, it can wake people up. and the one thing that we know is that good schools help build good communities. And that's what I want to try to help happen in Macon," said Morton.
"Congratulations to Daryl, wish he and the new sitting board well. I trust that the students who are part of the Bibb County School District will receive the very best education, the very best opportunities, they certainly deserve that. I look forward to moving on in my new position with the new city, county government," said Bumpus.
West waited for results at the board of elections, she said the school board needs to continue to establish goals.
"I do believe the board itself needs to go into strategic planning, we need to put a focus on process and procedures. There has to be a succinct connection between the superintendent and the board of education," she said.
"I'll still be involved. Probably not as much as I am now, but I most certainly will still be involved in my community," said Latch.
