Macon Business Owner Will Run for Bibb Chairman | Politics

Macon business owner Tom Wagoner will run for Bibb County Chairman. He made the announcement Friday morning from his office at Core Management Systems on Mulberry Street.

Wagoner, Republican, says he will not accept a salary or a county vehicle, and he plans to donate the money to the county budget or the animal shelter.

He has never held a public office but says building his own business gave him the leadership skills needed to be a county chairman.

He says, "I know how to build a budget, and I know how to read a budget. The commissioners that you put in office, whether it's the five now or the new government at nine, have to be able to sit down and not only read the budget, but you have to be able to understand that budget also."

Wagoner says he will encourage business owners to become more involved in the government.

County Chairman Sam Hart says he plans to run for re-election. He did not have a comment on Wagoner's announcement.
