11th Term For Sanford Bishop | Politics
ATLANTA (AP) - Democratic Rep. Sanford Bishop of Columbus has defeated a Republican challenger to win an 11th term in Congress.
Unofficial election returns Tuesday showed Bishop beat John House of Midland. Bishop had been a top Republican target in the 2010 midterm elections, which he narrowly won. But Bishop caught a break when GOP state lawmakers redrew his 2nd District seat last year to add Macon to the congressman's Democratic base that already included Columbus and Albany.
The change gave Bishop an infusion of black voters that helps his district lean Democratic.
House, a consultant and part-time university instructor, was unable to raise enough money to mount a serious challenge.
