Gunfire Near Bibb School-Bus Stop | Schools
Macon police say gunfire was heard near a school-bus stop in the Bloomfield area this morning. No one is reported hurt.
A police news release says there are reports of additional shots being fired.
A news release from the Bibb County School District said "additional gunfire was reported in the surrounding neighborhood."
No suspect is in custody and police are asking for help finding the shooter or shooters.
A neighbor told 13WMAZ he heard gunfire and a young girl screaming near the bus stop at Virginia Drive and Dalton Street. That''s where students wait to be taken to Southwest High School, about four miles away.
The neighbor, Muir Ferrier, said someone saw a fight going on at the bus stop just before the gunfire.
Police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet said students aboard Bus 405 arrived safely at Southwest High.
Her news release does not say if shots were fired at or near the bus.
One parent who called 13WMAZ said her 16-year-old daughter heard gunshots at the high school as she was getting off her bus this morning. We are trying to clarify whether shots were fired at more than one location.
Our live picture from the high school showed several police department vehicles parked outside. The school is located between Williamson Road and Canterbury Road.
Students on the bus were given the choice of staying in school or returning home with their parents.
The school district said the Georgia High School Graduation Test for Social Studies is being administered as scheduled this morning at the high school. Students who do not take the test will be allowed to retest on Friday.
