Southwest Early Childhood Education Class visits Northwoods Academy

Students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Pathway at Southwest High School visited Northwoods Academy on Tuesday, February 25. The Southwest High students spent time engaging students at Northwoods to improve their understanding of the child development theories they have been studying in class.

Carter Elementary School celebrates 20th anniversary

Sonny Carter Elementary School celebrated its 20th anniversary and paid tribute to namesake Manley Lanier “Sonny” Carter on Thursday, February 27. Staff and students from Carter Elementary School's first 20 years gathered to “Challenge the Edge of the Universe” as they reminisced about the school's early years and celebrated its progress.

Hutchings Culinary Arts Team advances to state competition

Hutchings Career Center's Culinary Arts program has advanced to state competition after winning first place at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Regional Competition on Saturday, March 1.

The Hutchings team, under the direction of Culinary Arts teacher Chef Leslie Hurdle, defeated teams from Houston, Muscogee and Dougherty counties. The competition took place at the FCCLA's Camp John Hope in Fort Valley.

Hutchings students Holly Carter, Jose Rodriguez and Romeo Wright will compete in the FCCLA state finals in Athens March 20-22.

Northeast FFA Chapter Celebrates National FFA Week

The Northeast High School FFA Chapter celebrated National FFA Week in February with a presentation of the FFA Proclamation at Macon-Bibb City Hall. District hosts Procurement Vendor Fair

District hosts Procurement Vendor Fair

The Bibb County School District hosted a Procurement Vendor Fair on Tuesday, February 25, at the Welcome Center Annex. The fair was open to all businesses, but was particularly intended to target small businesses, as well as those owned and operated by women and minorities.

Business owners were encouraged to attend in order to provide the District with their name and organization specialty, and to gain as much knowledge as possible pertaining to doing business with a state agency.

Barden Elementary Students Participate in National Reading Challenge

On Friday, February 28, Barden Elementary School participated in the Accelerated Reader (AR) Read the Most Coast to Coast event. On this day, students around the country attempted to take a total of 5 million AR tests. Students at Barden Elementary read in their classrooms all day long and took AR tests. Guest readers also visited and participated in the fun.

District Holds External Instructional Vendor Fair

The Bibb County School District's Instructional External Vendor Fair 2014, sponsored by the Office of School Improvement and Redesign, was held February 27-28 at the Welcome Center. The purpose of the instructional vendor fair was to serve as part of the process of identifying approved instructional vendors for the 2014-2015 school year. At the vendor fair, a group of administrators and teachers listened to business representatives as they presented information about the educational resources their companies provide. The vetting group of administrators and teachers will provide feedback on all of the resources presented in order for the District's Office of School Improvement and Redesign to develop a list of approved instructional vendors for the 2014-2015 school year.
