Organizing Spring Fling 2016 - Day 1: Medicine

Welcome to the Spring Fling. Join us every day in April to start flinging the clutter from your life!

Organizing: Spring Fling 2016 begins April 1

Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, the pollen is flying. Spring has sprung and it’s a wonderful time to get rid of clutter and start fresh.

Join me for the month of April for a Spring Fling. Each day we will be sorting, discarding and flinging items and habits from a wide variety of areas of our home and lives.  You can pick and choose which flings you would like do. You can do them every day or at your own pace. It’s all up to you!

Main Street Macon offering small business marketing grants

Macon-Bibb County, through its Main Street Macon program, is offering a new tool to support small businesses and help them be successful. Eligible businesses can apply for a grant of up to $1,500 for marketing assistance that will help to create or maintain jobs that benefit people with low to moderate incomes. The grants are being made available from a $50,000 Marketing Grant Program using Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.

“By providing retail and business owners this opportunity, we want to help our small and local businesses thrive, grow, and continue to create experiences that reflect our unique community,” says Main Street Macon Manager Steven Fulbright. “In the past several years, our urban core has attracted more and more entrepreneurs to open new businesses or relocated existing businesses, and we want to help them succeed and be a part of the ongoing revitalization of Downtown and our entire community.”

Dealing with Magnetic Photo Albums

Dealing with Magnetic Photo Albums

If you are over the age of 40, you probably know what I’m talking about when I say magnetic photo albums. These are the ubiquitous photo albums from the 70s, 80s and 90s with the plastic page covers and the slightly sticky pages guaranteed to hold your precious photos in place like a magnet. The problem is that now that we are in the 2010s, these albums are eating away at our pictures and when we try to remove the photos, often they are stuck in place. Talk about frustrating!

Organizing: Do You Need a Resolution Reboot?

Back on January 1 did you make a resolution, maybe to lose weight or to get more organized this year? I wanted to check in with you and see how that was going so far this year.

The Dumping Grounds: Get Rid of the Clutter Piles

The Dumping Grounds: Get Rid of the Clutter Piles

Let’s admit it. We all have a dumping ground in our homes. It might be a corner of the kitchen counter. It might be a chair in the bed room or even the elliptical machine in the office. It could even be an entire room. The dumping ground is the place where random stuff gets piled and stacked until it is in danger of toppling over.

I’m not backed up by scientific research here but my guess is that 95% of us have at least one dumping ground in our home. For me it tends to be a corner of my kitchen counter where mail collects and my dining room which is rarely used for eating but frequently holds school and work projects, donations waiting to go to Goodwill and often my husband’s bike and bike tools.

What can we do to reduce the size of the dumping ground or maybe even eliminate it all together?
