The Veggie Van: Bringing Locally-Grown Produce Near You

The Veggie Van: Bringing Locally-Grown Produce Near You

WHAT IS THE VEGGIE VAN?

As the prevalence of obesity and related preventable diseases increase across central Georgia, Community Health Works has started an initiative to combat these preventable diseases by bringing healthy produce and education efforts into underserved and at risk populations across the region.

The Veggie Van is a mobile farmers market that takes fresh fruits and vegetables from farmers in central Georgia and transports them into underserved communities across the region. Along with increasing access in these communities, the Veggie Van also serves as a traveling health education classroom: bringing educational material, cooking demonstrations, and healthy recipes to families across middle Georgia.

WHAT MAKES IT AFFORDABLE?

Several Events at the Mulberry Street Market This Week

As the fall continues to see new and different produce pop out of the ground in Middle GA, the Mulberry Street Market finds new ways to celebrate each week.

This week, along with the ladies of Paint the Town Pink and your weekly wares of fresh produce, baked goods, meats, and honey products, customers will be able to experience chef demonstrations, get recipe cards from vendors, and help the mission of two not-for-profit groups.

Market partner Macon Roots will be hosting the Market's celebration of National Food Day with multiple cooking demos and information on ways to get involved in the middle GA food system.
