Westside High School's new girls varsity basketball head coach, Candice Y. Roberson, understands the struggles of balancing a rigorous academic workload while accumulating points on the basketball court.

Bourn, McCann, Uggla Benched For a Night

Dan Uggla is in a slump of historical proportions.  Brian McCann is probably having the worst month of his career.  And Michael Bourn is definitely having the worst month of his brief Braves career.

What else do they all have in common?  Wednesday, for the first time all season, all three of them are on the bench.

16th Annual Open Car and Motorcyle Show

Alh Sihah Shrine Klassic Autos 16th Annual Open Car & Motorcycle Show is set for Saturday, August 18 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event is hosted by the Jones County Cruisers Car Club.

There won't be vehicle judging, but the first 150 entrants get a dash plaque.

Registration is $25.

All proceeds benefit the Shiners Childrens Hospital Transportation Fund.

Macon Man to Defend Champion Title at Speedway Saturday

Dublin-441 Speedway  Officials  have  scheduled  The 2nd  Annual  Dixie  Showdown for  this Saturday night,  Aug. 11th.  Featured  this  year  will  be  the  American  Dirt  Late  Model  "Super  7"  Series  paying  $2,000  to  win. 

Defending  champion  Hunter  Peacock of  Macon,  winner  of  the  Dixie  Showdown/ National  Late  Model  event  last year,  will  be defending  his  title,  along  with  ADLMS  points leaders  Ben  Faircloth of  Swainsboro  and  Chaz  Haskins  of  Macon,  both  tied  at  110,  with  a  host  of  others  from  throughout  the  South.
