District to Conduct Athletic Pre-Participation Physical Screenings

The Department of Athletics will conduct athletic pre-participation physical screenings at the high school of each feeder zone beginning this month. These physicals are free of charge and available to any student in grades 5-11 who is interested in participating in athletics during the 2012-2013 school year at the middle and high schools.

5K Barbarian Challenges Comes to Macon

MACON, GA.- Xtreme Events LLC will host the 5K Barbarian Challenge on Saturday April 14, 2012, a news release says.

The challenge starts at 8 a.m. The challenge happens at Paradise Off Road Park, 1276 Sgoda Rd in Macon.

Musical entertainment will start at 10 a.m. with the award ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

Help Welcome CIT Champions Mercer Bears Home

CIT Champions Mercer Bears return home from their triumphant win Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

A greeting party will welcome the team home at the University Center.

A Mercer athletics news release says, "The Mercer men’s basketball team achieved an improbable feat on Wednesday night, rallying from a six-point second half deficit to take a 70-67 win over Utah State the CollegeInsider.com Tournament Championship.  The game was held at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah."

Head over to Mercer Village for a block party in the street to watch the Mercer Bears vs. Utah State Aggies in the CIT Championship on a big screen! That's on Wednesday at 9 p.m.

The big screen will be set up near Francars and Barnes & Noble. The road through Mercer Village will be blocked off to traffic.

 

Magnolia Street Soapbox Derby Set for Sunday

MACON, Ga.-- The Magnola Street Soap Box Derby is set for April 1 in Washington Park.

The free event, sponsored by InTown Neighborhood and College Hill, will also feature live music from Jubee and the Morning After.

It'll be the event's fourth year.

Second Annual 'For the Love of Kratos 5K Run' Kicks Off Saturday

Second Annual 'For the Love of Kratos 5K Run' Kicks Off Saturday

Runners, walkers, dog lovers and animal rescuers will converge on Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Macon Saturday, March 17, for the 2nd Annual "For the Love of Kratos 5k Run."

The event not only helps raise money for area rescues, but also spreads the message that animal abuse cannot be tolerated anywhere in the world.

Last year's run raised nearly $2,000 for local rescue groups. Donations of money, toys, food and pet supplies are welcome.

The race is a Georgia Run and See Points race, Black Bag points race, Clover Glove Points race and Macon Tracks Piedmont sports points race.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 7015 Rivoli Road, and ends at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
