Black Top Basketball Delayed by One Weekend

Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation Department Blacktop Basketball League games scheduled for this coming Saturday, July 30, 2011 have been rescheduled for Saturday, August 6, 2011. The delay in play will push the season back only by one weekend.

Organizers decided to reschedule games to ensure good attendance at the next edition of Blacktop Basketball by players and fans who have long-standing commitments to participating in the July 28, 29, 30 and 31 Aubry Boyd Basketball Tournament at Memorial Park Gymnasium.

Many players in the newly minted Parks and Recreation outdoor basketball program for 18 – 30 year olds also have traditionally competed in the Aubry Boyd tournament. As a result Parks and Recreation officials decided to create a non-competitive situation that ultimately is in the best interest of both their league and the tournament.

Middle GA Fencers Finish Season in Good Form

Middle GA Fencers Finish Season in Good Form

Fencers from the Middle Georgia area wrapped up the season with a flurry of tournaments during the last 2 weekends in June.

The Middle Georgia Schools Fencing Association completed its inaugural season with its championship held in Warner Robins Georgia.  High school and middle school students from the Middle Georgia area competed in the mixed individual foil competition.  The competition was limited to foil as it was the only event class authorized for the MGSFA’s inaugural season.  According to MGSFA Executive Director, James Taylor “I am hoping more schools in the area will see the advantages of fencing for their students academically and physically. As the association membership grows to include other schools in the Middle Georgia, we will add epee and sabre events, accordingly, as interest grows.  Each school can select which event classes they want their students to be involved in.  Hopefully that will be all three.”

Nature Near You

Nature Near You

Sounds silly to have to seek out nature when it appears to be all around us.

But www.naturefind.com has taken it upon themselves to be searchable so that you can find nature near you, where you can enjoy it. (Driving by a crowd of pine trees on your way to work doesn't count, sorry.)

I searched Macon, Ga and found the following day-trip type adventures within 40 miles:

Walk in registrations will be accepted for Kids and Pros youth football camp on Monday, June 6

Warner Robins – Organizers announced today that they expect nearly 200 attendees at the 2nd Annual Kids and Pros youth football camp to be held at Tanner Park on Carl Vinson Parkway June 6-9 from 6-9 pm. Though it is too late for online registration, walk-up registrations will be accepted at 5:30 pm on Monday for those with cash or cashier’s checks (no personal checks).

“The local community has really stepped up this year,” said community leader Keith Lauritsen. “Because of the great financial support, we can serve a full camp of 200 attendees between the ages of 7 and 13.” Local fundraising efforts allowed Kids and Pros to “scholarship” some young attendees who were not able to pay for the camp, according to Lauritsen.
