Wesleyan Falls to Spelman

Ciara Walker's 11 points and 10 rebounds led Wesleyan College in a 52-41 loss at Spelman College on Tuesday night. 

The loss dropped the Pioneers to 4-14 (0-12), while the Jaguars improved to 6-13 (3-9), a Wesleyan news release says.

Bre Solmone once again pulled down double digit rebounds for the fifth time in six games with 16 on the night.  Spelman was paced by Jasmine Taylor's 12 points and 9 rebounds.

The Pioneers return to action tomorrow night, Wednesday, Feb. 9 in their final home game of the season. 

They will take on league-leading Maryville College at 6 p.m.

Adult Basketball Registration

Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation has extended its adult basketball registration until Jan. 14.

The league is available for men 18 years and older.

Play begins in late January.

Businesses, individuals and community teams are invited to register.

Four Mercer Teams Recognized for 100% Graduation Rate

Four Mercer sports teams (men’s tennis, women’s golf, women’s tennis, women’s cross country) have recently been recognized by the NCAA for a perfect 100% mark in the recently released graduation rate figures.

According to a Mercer news release, the NCAA tracks the Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) data and also produces an NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) figure that more accurately reflects overall student-athlete graduation by tracking and counting transfers. For the 2003 cohort measured over a six-year timeframe, Mercer had its men’s tennis (GSR and FGR), women’s golf (GSR), women’s tennis (GSR) and women’s cross country (GSR) teams post perfect 100% scores.

Mercer Basketball Offers Two Ways for Free Admission to Navy Game on Friday

Mercer University will offer two ways to receive free admission ot the men's basketball game versus Navy on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Mercer University Center.

Mercer The first way to gain free admission is for anyone presenting their military identification card at the ticket window on the day of the game.

The other way to receive free admission is to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the door on game day. The toys will be distributed to families of military members stationed at Warner Robins Air Force Base who are deployed abroad for this holiday season.

North Macon Park Gym Hosts Holiday Camp

North Macon Park, a division of the Macon-Bibb Department of Parks and Recreation, will host a Christmas week fun fest for youth.

Dec. 20: Two ball contest for ages 9-12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dec. 21: Movie Theater Trip, $10 per child.

Dec. 22: Indoor soccer for ages 4-12 from 6-8 p.m.

Dec. 23: Drop and Shop, last-minute shopping trip from 3-6 p.m.

Mount de Sales Academy Cross Country Team Wins GISA State Championship

The Mount de Sales Academy boys cross country team won the 2010 GISA AAA State Championship. Following a regular season of first place finishes at every meet, the boys’ team went on to defeat Augusta Prep to bring home the championship trophy. The MDS girls cross country team, following their own unparalleled regular season, finished in second place in the state meet.
