Local School Holds Food Drive for Rescue Mission

Robin Thompson’s 2nd Grade “Gifted Program” at J.H. Porter Elementary was given a project to research which organizations needed assistance in the Macon area.  

That's according to a Macon Rescue Mission news release.

Each student investigated a community organization that helps people in the Macon area.

Second grade student Emily Slavin had the winning nomination: Macon Rescue Mission. 

The entire school than had a food drive to support the Mission. 

The goal was to reach a 1,000 items and the men from the Mission picked them up Wednesday morning, the release says.

Middle Georgian Wins Country Living Award

Middle Georgian Wins Country Living Award

Middle Georgian Rachel Garza will be featured in the December issue of Country Living magazine.

Her blog, "Always a Project," won a blue ribbon award for the craft category in Country Living Blue Ribbon Blogger Awards.

The magazine-sponsored award had seven categories.

According to Country Living's website, the competition had over 700 entries in seven different categories.

The issue featuring Garza hits newsstands on November 22. The magazine hosted a national competition for bloggers and Garza won.

Country Living flew Garza to New York City  for a 2-day stay and an awards luncheon at the Hearst Tower.

Garza lives in Forsyth and works at Mercer University in Macon.
