Photo Gallery | Macon Animal Control Reopens; Filling up Fast
Macon Animal Control is open for business again, and the shelter is filling up fast with strays, unwanted litters and family pets dumped by their owners.
The shelter closed recently for massive pest control efforts, and Macon residents, along with rescues and foster "parents" managed to save about 90 dogs and cats slated for death at the time.
Now that the shelter is back open, staff and local rescues hope the momentum continues.
"Right now, we have some of the sweetest, most precious dogs at the shelter that we have had in a long time," said interim shelter director Van VanDeWalker. "I would encourage anyone who is looking for a new family member to visit us and see just what I mean. Even if you aren't looking, come on down and walk some of the dogs. They will appreciate being out of the shelter for a while and you will feel pretty good, too."
Macon Animal Control shelter is open weekdays until 5:30 p.m. Call (478) 751-9200 for information on any of the dogs in the photo gallery, and be sure to have the pet's ID number handy. Only about half of the pets at the shelter are in the gallery, so go down to the shelter at 1010 Eleventh Street and meet them all for yourself.
