Photo Gallery | PHOTOS | "Careers on Wheels" Teaches Kids About Police and Fire Departments

MPD News release:

 

The MPD, along with the city and county’s other first responders, participated in the Heard Elementary School “Career on Wheels Day.” The children learned about the work of the Macon Police Department, Bibb Sheriff’s Office and Macon-Bibb Fire Department, as well as other occupations in which transportation is crucial.

On hand for the MPD: members of the SWAT Team (Lt. David Freeland, Lt. Shermaine Jones, and Investigator John Horne); the new Bearcat named MARK*1 in memory of Training Academy Lt./SWAT Commander Mark Cotton; Sgt. Billy Skinner from the MPD Bomb Unit, along with the bomb truck and bomb robot known as Dynamite II. Support Services/Youth & Intervention was represented by DARE Officer Tim James, Sgt. Willie Brown,  McGruff the Crime Dog and Officer Josh Sanderson. Officer Sanderson, along with K-9 officer Jason Kellum and his dog Rita, taught the children about the important role of K-9’s in law enforcement. Also participating: Precinct 1/Bike Patrol officer  Lorenzo Wallace and his T3. Vehicle displays included a patrol car and the Crime Lab van.
