Vineville Academy Class Project Funded

Recently, Vineville Academy Strings Teacher Patricia Baser recently had her fourth project funded through DonorsChoose.org: the funding of 14 violin, viola, and cello bows to replace those worn out from use.

Baser submitted the $778.81 project on September 15 and was notified it had been completely funded on Oct. 21.

Vineville Academy students have the opportunity to study a string instrument as early as kindergarten, and each year, the program continues to grow.

This year, almost 150 students are learning to play the violin, viola, and cello; with almost all students using school instruments, the bows are used a lot and wear out after a while.

In the last two years, the Fine Arts Department has purchased an additional 50 fractional size violins.

Fly South Festival Saturday, Nov. 6

The Fly South Festival returns to Macon and is set to take flight on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Amerson Water Works Park.

With a new tailgate-style format, the day-long festival will feature live music headlined by The Marshall Tucker Band and food and beverage vendors surrounding the Porter Pavilion on the Ocmulgee River.

This year’s Fly South Festival is being presented by Friends of the Ocmulgee Trail. Last year, Bragg Jam Festival organizers launched the Fly South Festival to create a fall signature live music event for Macon. Bragg Jam’s continued partnership with the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail has brought the Friends of the Ocmulgee Trail to continue this new concert tradition.
