Ice storm brings power outages

Georgia utility companies say more than 177,000 customers were without power as ice coated trees brought branches and power lines down.

Georgia Power reported that more than 104,000 customers were without power shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

More than 71,000 of them were in metro Atlanta. Another 29,000 customers were in eastern Georgia; and 1,340 were without power in parts of west Georgia.

UFC's Miller to help open new facility at Robins

Robins Air Force Base invited a special guest to help them open a new Mix Martial Arts training facility Friday.

Macon-native Cole Miller, an Ultimate Fighting Champion featherweight, will open the newly-renovated Warrior Athletic Readiness – W.A.R. room at 1 p.m.

The gym now features an MMA room which offers specialized training using the latest fighting techniques to help individuals subdue an aggressor, according to a news release.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of central Georgia beginning Tuesday morning until Wednesday afternoon.

A wintry mix is expected for central and southern parts of the state beginning Tuesday afternoon. Rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow are likely Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning.

Ocmulgee Heritage Trail Closed

Ocmulgee Heritage Trail Closed

The Ocmulgee Heritage Trail was closed Sunday evening, December 29, 2013, and will remain closed until Thursday, January 2, 2014. According to the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), the Ocmulgee River has risen above the flood stage of 18 feet and will lead to minor flooding along the Trail. EMA and the Department of Public Works expect to reopen the Trail on Thursday, January 2, 2014, depending on the water levels.
