1st Middle Georgia Idol to be held in Macon

The first Middle Georgia Idol event will be held November 12 starting at 7 p.m. at the Howard Middle School Auditorium on Forsyth Road.

The event will showcase the talent of Middle Georgia's youth and young adults. It's a fundraiser to benefit the Family  Counseling Center.

Tickets are $10 per person and children under ages 10 are free with a paying adult.

Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys to hold free law clinic

The Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and New Life International Ministries will hold a free law clinic October 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 283 Grant Avenue in Macon.

According to a news release, free legal advice will be given by licensed Georgia attorneys in the following areas: criminal law, family law (guardianship, child support, legitimization), landlord/tenant law, personal injury, social security/disability, small business and consumer rights.

Free lunch will be provided by Lee and Eddie's BBQ.

G. Love and Special Sauce to play at Cox Capitol Theatre

G. Love and Special Sauce, with support from Chris Kasper, will play at the Cox Capitol Theatre October 10 at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $22.40 to $400 with options for general admission and reserved boxes.

Herbalist Darryl Patton to lead workshop at Ocmulgee Indian Mounds

A master herbalist and author Darryl Patton will lead a workshop about wild edibles and native plants November 7 at the Ocmulgee National Indian Mounds.

According to a news release, Patton has over 30 years of experience gathering wild edibles and using medicinal plants.

In the afternoon, according to the release, Patton will spend the afternoon in exploration of the site. There will also be a hike where participants will have a chance to ask Patton questions.

The cost to attend is $40 per individual adult. If more than one adult attends in a group, the price is $37 per adult. Seating is limited.

Macon-Bibb County recently completed the second round of its 5 x 5 Neighborhood Improvement Program in District 3 by focusing on the Kings Park neighborhood, and Commissioner Lucas, residents, and departments hosted a press event prior to Macon-Bibb County departments beginning work.

Macon-Bibb Health Department to hold walk-in flu shot clinic

Flu season is in full swing, and the Macon-Bibb Health Department wants to heal the sick.

The Macon-Bibb County Health Department is hosting a flu shot walk-in clinic on Tuesday, September 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, September 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m, according to a news release.

The clinic will be in the Assembly Room at its 171 Emery Highway location. No appointment will be necessary necessary.

Drive through service will be avilable for the handicapped and disabled, the release states, with a maximum of four people per car, including the driver.

Residents who miss the clinics can visit the department for flu shots during regular business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
