Joan Bridgeman Veal


Macon-Joan “Jo” Bridgeman Veal, 76, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 after an extended illness. Services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 10:00AM at Hart’s Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, with the Reverend David Mosely officiating. Burial will be in Memory Hill Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services.

Mrs. Veal was born in Macon to the late Grant and Marion Bridgeman. She was a retired Materials Manager from R.A.F.B. and a member of Northridge Baptist Church.

Johnny Carl Sandefur, Sr.


Macon- Johnny Carl Sandefur, Sr., passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 11:00AM, in the chapel of Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola. Burial will be at Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church Building Fund, 6611 Zebulon Road, Macon, GA 31220.

While attending Dudley Hughes High School, Johnny apprenticed at this father’s sign company in the hey day of hand made advertising. He owned Electro Neon Sign Company for 20 years and was recognized in national publications for his work with Neon. Johnny was an avid motorcyclist, had a love for music and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Sandefur.

Bennie Scarborough


Funeral services for Mr. Bennie Scarborough, 91, of Cochran who died Friday, July 8, 2011 will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 10, 2011 in Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Ricky Harcrow officiating. Burial will be in Trail Branch Cemetery.

Mr. Scarborough was born in Laurens County, the son of the late Joseph Scarborough and Clara Bennett Scarborough. He had lived in Bleckley County most of his life. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Scarborough of Marietta; two sons, Bob Scarborough and John Scarborough of Cochran; brother, Alex Scarborough of

La Grange; three grandchildren, Keith Scarborough of Tampa, Florida, J.J. Scarborough of Macon and Eric Scarborough of Montrose.

The family will meet friends following the service.

Ruth Frances Gamble

Macon- Ruth F, "Peggy" Gamble, Age 84, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 7, 2011 after an extended illness. She was the devoted wife of Robert D. Gamble for 59 years. Services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 2pm at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Macon.

The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services. Peggy is survived by daughter and son in law, Paula and Rick Cain of Byron, grandchildren Bobbie and Alicia Whitehouse, Byron, Steven and Rebekah Whitehouse, Byron and Jamie and Raina Cain, Hawkinsville and great grandchildren, Chelsea, Austin, Tucker, Katelynn, Caleb, Tirzah, Jaden and Riley. She was a member of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church. If you wish, In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the church at 5455 Mt. Pleasant Church Rd, Macon, 31216.

Macon-Frank Mallary Willingham, 94, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Highland Hills Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Bruner and the Reverend Cass Du Charme officiating. Visitation will be between 5:00-7:00PM on Friday, July 8, 2011 at Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Mr. Willingham was born on Clisby Street, Macon, GA on August 14, 1916. His father was the late Broadus Estes Willingham, Jr. and the late Rosalie Mallary Willingham of Macon, GA. Frank graduated from Baylor school in Chattanooga, TN. He went two years to Davidson College, NC. and transferred to University of Georgia where he met his wife, Mary Eugenia Watson.

Donald Elkins Bush


Donald Elkins Bush, 60, of Macon, Ga. passed away on July 4, 2011, after a brief illness. He was born in Macon, to the late Arlene E. Bush and the late Thomas Gordon Bush, Sr. He retired after 30 years as an EMT, and most recently was employed by O'Reilly Auto Parts. He was an avid sports fan, especially of his Georgia Bulldogs. He had a passion for most styles of music. He graduated from Mark Smith High School, and received an AA degree from Middle Georgia College.

He was predeceased by his brother Thomas G. Bush, Jr. He is survived by a sister, Brenda B Brown (Ben) of Jacksonville, FL, a brother, Larry Bush ( Jennie) of Macon, 2 nieces, Stephanie Brown and Lauren Bush, and 2 nephews, David Brown and Jonathan Bush.
